The ASBH Election

Election Ballot

The ASBH election ballot is a paper ballot. Each eligible ASBH voting member is sent one ballot, one return envelope, and one copy of the candidate statements in the mail via US post. The election ballot contains the election slate and the deadline date for the return of the ballot. Ballots must be postmarked by August 7. Ballots received at the national office by fax, email, phone, or means other than the paper ballot are counted in the election when a special provision is made to accommodate a voting member during the election period.

Candidates

Please see this PDF file of the candidate statements for the 2009 election. The statements were included in the election mailing.

Candidate Statements

Counting the Ballots

  • ASBH's primary staff contact person at its national office (AMC) receives all ballots. The staff person gives the ballots to the head of an AMC support division. This person gives the assignment of counting the ballots to an administrative specialist. The administrative specialist counts the ballots. The head of AMC's support division gives the assignment of counting the ballots to another administrative specialist. The administrative specialist counts the ballots. If there is a discrepancy between the two counts, the ballots are re-counted until there is no discrepancy.
  • Each section on the ballot is recorded separately: President-Elect; Secretary or Treasurer; Director-at-Large; and Nominating Committee.
  • Only 1 vote per ballot is permitted for the position of President-Elect and for the position of Secretary/Treasurer. If a person votes for both candidates for President-Elect and/or Secretary/Treasurer, the vote for President-Elect and/or Secretary/Treasurer is not counted.
  • Up to 3 votes per ballot can be cast for Director-at-Large. If a person votes for more than 3 candidates for Director-at-Large, none of the votes in the Director-at-Large section of the ballot are counted. If a person votes for at least 1 but not up to 3 candidates for a Director-at-Large position where up to 3 votes may be cast, the partial vote (1 or 2) is counted.
  • Up to 2 votes per ballot can be cast for the Nominating Committee. If a person votes for more than 2 candidates for the Nominating Committee, none of the votes in the Nominating Committee section of the ballot are counted. If a person votes for at least 1 candidate for a Nominating Committee position where up to 2 votes may be cast, the partial vote is counted.
  • The Nominating Committee resolves any ties during an election.

Candidate Installation

The elected candidates take office at the Members' Meeting at the ASBH Annual Meeting following the election.
