2024 Graphic Design Contest

The 2024 Program Committee invites ASBH members and nonmembers to submit original art to be featured in the graphic representation of the 2024 ASBH Annual Conference theme, with an artistic interpretation of the theme: What Does It Mean to be Human? The submission window is now closed, and the winner will be announced in late March.

General Information

Eligibility

Both ASBH members and nonmembers may submit entries. A submission may be from an individual or a group of up to five collaborators.

Entry Limit 

Up to two submissions per individual or group are allowed.

Deadline

Entries meeting all required specifications must have been submitted to ASBH by 11:59 pm CT on Monday, February 26, 2024. 

Recognition for the Winning Entry

The winning entry will be chosen by the Program Committee and announced at the end of March 2024. The design (or portions of the design) may appear on 2024 Annual Conference promotional materials.

The individual artist or artists will be recognized in conference materials with their artist statement and a brief biography. The winning artist(s) will be granted one complimentary registration for the 2024 ASBH Annual Conference and a complimentary one-year ASBH membership.

What Does It Mean to be Human?

As we watch the meteoric rise of artificial intelligence technology,  we are confronted with increasingly complex moral dilemmas happening at home and abroad. Reflecting on these moral and technological revolutions forces us to reconsider what it means to be human on an individual and societal level. How can technology supplement human instinct or offer a new perspective? How do we compassionately acknowledge the humanity of healthcare staff and patients? What role should the human condition play within the greater environment? The 2024 ASBH Annual Conference invites the community to reconsider long-held notions and think critically about the nature of humanity within our shifting landscape as it addresses the central question: What does it mean to be human?

Copy

Inclusion of the ASBH logo or text referring to the Annual Conference or the conference theme in the submission is not required. Those items will be incorporated into the final overall design by the ASBH staff, using the winning design.

Media

Any mixed media suitable for reproduction as a poster or cover are allowed, including computer-generated graphics and photographs. All submissions must be original art. No trademarked or copyrighted images or phrases shall be submitted as part of any design. ASBH will require written permission from any subject included in any photographs.

Submission Format 

Digital designs should be submitted as a 300 dpi JPG or PDF. If a traditional painting or drawing is submitted, it should be scanned and sent as a 300 dpi JPG or PDF. Submission dimensions must be at least 8.5 x 11 inches. Larger sizes are acceptable.

Contest Terms

One design may be chosen by the Program Committee and announced at the end of March 2024. All or part of the winning design may be used, at the sole discretion of ASBH. The design (or portions of the design) may appear on conference materials, signage, or the ASBH website, as deemed appropriate by ASBH. ASBH reserves the right, for any reason, to select no winner or winners.

The individual artist or artists will be recognized in conference materials with one paragraph describing the winning submission and one biographical paragraph. The winning artist(s) will be granted one complimentary registration for the 2024 ASBH Annual Conference and a complimentary year of ASBH membership.

Rights

All artists will retain the rights to their work but must grant ASBH unlimited license to use all or part of the design in relation to the 2024 Annual Conference. To the extent allowed by law, the artist grants a perpetual, worldwide, royalty-free, nonexclusive, sublicensable, unconditional, and transferable license to ASBH to edit, modify, cut, rearrange, add to, delete from, reproduce, store, modify, copy, transmit, publish, post, broadcast, display, adapt, exhibit, and/or otherwise use or reuse the artist's entry, name, and biographical material, including, but not limited to, use for advertising, promotional, commercial, or any other purposes without further review, notice, approval, consideration, or compensation to the entrant or any third party. The determination of eligibility of entries and any interpretation of these rules is at the sole discretion of ASBH and shall be final and binding upon all entrants. By participating, the entrant agrees to abide by and be bound by these rules.
